Armoured Cars

As you step into the Museum, during your visit you are greeted by a diverse array of armoured vehicles, each telling its own story.

When looking at the many British cars on display, one will notice the Alvis Saladin which was a six-wheeled armoured car utilized by the British Army, first deployed in Oman and Cyprus. It continued to serve until the 1990 invasion of Kuwait and remained in use by various countries until as recently as 2009. Its open-topped design, while offering a panoramic view, also posed challenges in terms of crew protection.

Not to be overlooked during your visit is also the American M-8 Greyhound armoured car.

Speed, agility, and history come together in the iconic M8 Greyhound an American armoured car that played a crucial role during World War II and beyond. Designed primarily for reconnaissance, the M8 allowed crews to scout ahead of armored divisions, gather intelligence, and respond quickly to changing battle conditions. Its 6×6 wheeled design gave it impressive mobility, with a top speed of nearly 55 mph on roads and a range of over 280 miles, making it one of the fastest vehicles of its kind.

Also of popular interest, is our A British Saracen armoured personnel carrier. Introduced in the 1950s, this six-wheeled vehicle was designed to safely transport infantry across the battlefield while providing protection from small arms fire and shrapnel. Its fully enclosed, armored body allowed troops to travel in relative safety, making it a vital part of British and Commonwealth forces during conflicts such as the Malayan Emergency, Suez Crisis, and Northern Ireland operations.

One of the standout features of the Muckleburgh Military Collection is our ongoing commitment to preservation.

Many of the vehicles are kept in working order, including our armoured cars. The museum's dedication to restoration ensures that these historical vehicles continue to educate and inspire future generations.
